Bonus Episode 20 City of the Dead/The Skull

skull

The twentieth bonus episode of Hammer House of Podcast is up now!

And, yes, this is a double episode. Why is it a double episode? Well there are very good reasons, very sound and good reasons, which are wholly Paul’s fault.

But what an excellent pair of films to have together! A gorgeously atmospheric tale of witches in a very English America, followed by a Cushing and Lee pic where they actually *talk* to one another without any manner of attempted murder for whole scenes! Also, there is SkullCam. Which is excellent and NoseSkullCam, which is arguably the single greatest directorial choice we’ve seen so far in our voyage through horror.

As this is a Patrons only episode, and a thank you for supporting our podcast, it’s only available on Patreon and not our regular podcast feed. This, and all previous bonus episodes, are available to all new Patrons for as little as $1 a month.

Episode 19 Captain Clegg

captainclegg

Hello! And welcome to the nineteenth episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and Lizbeth Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter.

Technically, maybe, Captain Clegg may not be a horror movie, but it does have Peter Cushing in it, and a scary marsh, and skeletons on skeletal horses…which sounds quite horror-ish but that’s merely a cunning ruse in the first five minutes to suggest it might be a horror. And the first two minutes is a cunning to ruse to suggest it might be a pirate movie. It is neither of these things. Rather tis a charming tale of 18th century village life very rudely interrupted by some soldiers who have issues with reasonably priced fine wines. For shame.

Bonus Episode 16 The Uncanny

uncanny

The sixteenth bonus episode of Hammer House of Podcast is up now!

This month we return to the not!Amicus portmanteau films with a feature that tries to do for cats what Jaws did for sharks. Fortunately, it doesn’t succeed because cats are adorable and beautiful and, really, kind of right through most of the film. Also, Peter Cushing is here. Hurrah!

As this is a Patrons only episode, and a thank you for supporting our podcast, it’s only available on Patreon and not our regular podcast feed. This, and all previous bonus episodes, are available to all new Patrons for as little as $1 a month.

Episode 13 The Brides of Dracula

Hello! And welcome to the thirteenth episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and Lizbeth Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter.

We’re a whole year old! And we start off 2019 with 1960’s superlative The Brides of Dracula. After the success of Hammer’s first vampire film, The Horror of Dracula, Dracula is back in their first vampire sequel, The Brides of Dracula! …oh, no, he’s not. Oh dear. Not to worry, what need have we for Dracula when there’s Peter Cushing? And he actually is back as the marvellously dashing Van Helsing, ready to save the world – or at least Transylvania and the Lower Danube – from the evils of vampirism in one of Hammer’s most magnificent movies.

Hello! And welcome to the first Christmas Special of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and Lizbeth Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter.

For our inaugral Christmas Special, we’ve recorded a commentary for the delightful Doctor Who and the Daleks. Which, yes, isn’t horror, but it is Amicus, and it does have Peter Cushing, so it’s…sort of in the right area. And what could be more festive than multi-coloured Daleks and Peter Cushing in a fake moustache?

The eleventh bonus episode of Hammer House of Podcast is up now!

This month we return to out Patreon choices with 1974’s The Beast Must Die (the *only* film with a Werewolf Break). It’s a delightful combo of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, and The Most Dangerous Game. With werewolves.

As this is a Patrons only episode, and a thank you for supporting our podcast, it’s only available on Patreon and not our regular podcast feed. This, and all previous bonus episodes, are available to any new Patrons for as little as $1 a month.

Episode 10 The Mummy

mummy1959poster

Hello! And welcome to the tenth episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and Lizbeth Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter.

In this month’s episode we encounter a mummy. Not the actual original mummy, but a rewrite of Universal’s original mummy in The Mummy (1959). Hammer have been freed from the shackles of legal worry, having reached an agreement with Universal that means they can now nick their plots and monster designs. Is this a good idea? No. Not really. The Mummy might have Peter Cushing as our dashing hero, and Christopher Lee as the monster, but it’s no Dracula, or Curse of Frankenstein. On the bright side, Christopher Lee wears gold nail polish, and if you have a short memory for plot, you’re in luck! This film will remind you again and again of what just happened.
